Our Founder

Whitney Martin is a PATH Intl. certified Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning. Whitney grew up with horses in Ohio and after a long stint as a magazine editor in New York City she moved to California. After being diagnosed with Uterine Cancer at just 35 years old she reconnected with horses to help her deal with the anxiety and depression that comes with a cancer diagnosis. She then founded Healing with the Herd, an equine therapy workshop for women cancer patients while working as a horse handler at the National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy in Woodside, CA. While at NCEFT she also designed and facilitated workshops and therapy sessions for adolescents, people struggling with substance abuse, first responders and veterans. Whitney is very passionate about rescue horses and has adopted three mares, Hopscotch, Cayenne and Roz, who are part of her equine therapy team.

PATH Intl. is “a federally registered 501(c)3, advances professional equine-assisted services by empowering its members, credentialed professionals, partners and the public through rigorously developed standards, credentials and education that recognize the power of the equine-human relationship.”
